Bush light

Grass at Gapuwiyak, Northern Australia in June 2009. I shot this into the setting sun to create this lovely effect. It looked unbelieveable in real life, much better than in this photo.

Golden grass

This is spear grass after it has been knocked down by the last of the heavy rains and before it gets burnt off to prevent destructive late season bush fires. Photographed at Katherine Gorge, Northern Territory, April 2008

Spear grass

The spear grass in the top end is quite amazing. It can quickly grow up to 12 feet high in the wet and then it dries out, starts falling over, turns straw coloured and is soon burnt off by the local inhabitants setting fire to it. It looks very beautiful, like sun-ripened corn. Taken at at Edith Falls just north of Katherine in the Northern Territory in April 2008.
