Tropical delight

A building at the Aboriginal community of Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands in April 2008. The two coconut trees are magnificent.

Colourful building

A colourful if somewhat ramshackle building at the Aboriginal community of Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands, photographed in April 2008. I think the messages on it are anti-smoking ones.

Country house

A beautiful house and garden at the Aboriginal community of Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands and which I photographed on a visit there in April 2008

Nguiu Phil

My colleague Phil at Nguiu on the Tiwi islands. I like the look on his face, his hat and sunglasses, along with the two 4wd vehicles, one minus window, a real community vehicle. Taken in April 2008

No humbug here!

The housing cooperative building at the Aboriginal community of Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands in April 2008. This is where you pay your rent. The no Humbug sign refers to the common practice on Aboriginal communities of demanding goods or money from others (Usually relatives who are culturally obligated to provide for you, or non-Indigenous people) at no cost to yourself. Similar to begging or panhandling, and a real scourge in these parts.

Light Tree

Tree at Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands in April 2008. I love the colours and the shaft of light at teh top right hand side illuminating the sky above the tree. It all flows for me.

Nguiu road

Tropical-looking road at Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands in April 2008. Note the huge potholes, probably caused by the excessive rain.

Nguiu sign

Painted sign on a building at Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands in April 2008. I think it is an anti-smoking message. Large and arresting.

Coconut classic

A classic photo of a coconut tree which i took at at Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands in April 2008.

Dirt road truck

Vehicle at Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands in April 2008. I like the movement of the red dust.

Danger

Sign taken at Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands in April 2008. The water is inviting but very, very dangerous!

Touring Tiwis

The Tiwi Tours bus and staff on Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands in April 2008. They were waiting to pick up passengers arriving on the ferry from Darwin.

Nguiu reflections

I love reflections, especially complex ones, and this one is complex. Photographed at Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands in April 2008, it is a picture of my colleague Phil closing up the office on the Australian Government complex site as reflected through the back window on the left hand side of his vehicle. On the left you can see the portable fridge in the car!
